Georgios Karakonstantis received his Ph.D. and MSc degrees from the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of the Purdue University, U.S.A.
In the past he was appointed Lecturer and promoted to Senior Lecturer and Reader in Queen's University Belfast, United Kingdom. He has also worked as Senior Research Scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in the Advanced Technology Group, Qualcomm Inc., San Diego, CA, and in the VLSI lab of Intracom, Athens, Greece.
His research interests include approximate computing and storage architectures for nanometer technologies, modelling and design of and energy-efficient and fault-tolerant circuits and systems for embedded, edge, cloud applications.
Overall, his research work appears in more than 118 journals and conferences, 1 patent, 1 book and 3 book chapters and received the 'best paper award' at the IEEE DATE conference on 2020, and three 'paper awards' by the HiPEAC Network of Excellence on 2016, 2020, 2021. His research was also nominated for the 'best paper award' in the IEEE/ACM MICRO conference on 2020 and in the IEEE DATE conference on 2016, and was awarded a Prize at the International Altera Innovate Design Contest.
His work was supported extensively by national and industrial funding agencies and he led major multi-national projects funded by Research Programmes of the European Commission, the Hellenic FRI, the Swiss NSF and UK's Royal Academic of Engineering. He was awarded a 4-year Marie-Curie Career Integration Grant by the European Commission.
He is serving as member of the programme committee and referee of several top-tier conferences and journals and on 2018-2021 he served as co-chair of the System Level Dependability track of DATE conference. On 2019 he was appointed Associate Editor of the new IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems. He is Senior Member of the IEEE and Member of ACM SIGDA.
