    • Learning Outcomes

    The course provides the students an introduction to the components of a computing system, data representation, the basic mathematical tools and the algorithms. The following topics are covered: The components of a computer. Numeral systems and operations. Data storage. Computer Organization (Hardware, Operating System, Software). Induction and Recursion. Relations and functions. Algorithms and Complexity. Counting Techniques. Discrete Probability. Graphs and Trees

    The course introduces to basic notions of Computer Science. Aims at introducing to the components of a computing system (software and hardware), and the basic concepts of discrete mathematics and algorithms.

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

    • know the components of a computing system
    • know the fundamental mathematical tools of computer science
    • understand and use basic data representation and storage techniques
    • understand the basic notions of algorithms
