    • Learning Outcomes

    Core modules

    Topic: Selected in collaboration with an academic supervisor and usually concerns a specialized topic related to the curriculum.

    Research process: Includes data collection and analysis, theoretical investigation, experimental work or a combination of these.

    Structure: Introduction. Presentation of the topic and purpose of the research.

    Theoretical framework: Literature analysis and theoretical approach..

    Methodology: Description of the research process.

    Results: Presentation and analysis of findings.

    Conclusions and recommendations: Critical evaluation and possible applications of the research.

    Academic character: Follows specific writing rules, such as references to bibliography, academic documentation, and use of formal language.

    The Diploma Thesis is prepared individually by each student and constitutes an in-depth study or research or application on a chosen topic applying a methodical, systematic and scientific approach. The diploma thesis usually contains a bibliographic review, theoretical development or implementation of results of a scientific cognitive subject or a construction accompanied by the presentation of the corresponding theoretical background.

    Students are invited to develop critical and combinatorial thinking, organization and analysis skills, applying the rigorous, systematic and scientific approach.

    The purpose of the thesis preparation of students of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is to familiarize students with the procedures of research or application of research results with the ultimate goal of developing autonomy, deepening in a subject of knowledge of the science of Electrical and Computer Engineering of their choice and promoting this science.

    The preparation of the thesis helps students develop the ability to identify issues that require special study, as well as improve the organization, writing, and presentation of scientific data and results. The thesis is an important part of fulfilling the requirements for obtaining the Diploma and should be done with special care since very often:

    • It reflects the level of knowledge and skills developed by the student during his/her studies
    • It can be a criterion for admission to a postgraduate study program or to research programs related to a scientific subject
    • It can be considered a decisive qualification for professional rehabilitation and advancement (accompanying form to a CV)
    • It can be a contribution to the Institution or service where they are employed, or an additional criterion for their professional advancement
    • It may promote research and knowledge in the field of study.

    After successfully completing the Thesis, the student will be able to:

    At the level of knowledge:

    • Clearly recognize the boundaries of an independent topic and fully recognize its basic and secondary aspects, focusing on the most essential points for its discussion by applying a specific methodology.
    • Describe and document the basic knowledge related to the topic of the work being carried out
    • Summarize the existing scientific knowledge and expertise on the topic through the citation of updated bibliography.

    At the skill level:

    • To use the available bibliography for a specific thematic area with a critical and synthetic spirit
    • To design a research plan and develop an appropriate methodology for its approach and investigation and to organize a plan for its implementation
    • To write and edit a complete scientific essay
    • To communicate clearly and effectively the conclusions of the research, as well as the knowledge and reasoning on which they are based, by successfully carrying out a comprehensive presentation before the three-member examination committee, the faculty members of the department as well as other postgraduate students.

    At the level of competencies:

    • To combine and demonstrate systematic knowledge and critical understanding of research methodology issues, selection and justification of research questions, writing a research proposal, implementing a complete research process to rationally answer questions of the broader, interdisciplinary context in archaeology.
    • To select the appropriate techniques/approaches and adapt them to the chosen topic using original thinking.
    • To produce and analyze data through his/her research and formulate conclusions by structuring and writing a complete academic text.

    The thesis can in many cases form the basis for further research or professional employment.
